Dalkey Book Festival

The Dalkey Book Festival is the most vibrant, full of positive energy event by the sea in a suburb of Dublin called Dalkey. It is a unique opportunity to experience and connect with the world full of great minds, books, stunning scenery, delicious food and unforgettable talks. Niall and I lived in Dalkey for a while when we moved from London to Ireland in 2014, but I first fell in love with Dalkey and the surrounding areas when Niall proposed to me on Killiney Hill in 2010. Since then, we travelled a lot and lived in other countries, but finally settled in Galway. When we visit Dalkey, I feel that I am at home. Could you feel being at home in two places? I love Galway and the West of Ireland, but Dalkey is also in my heart. We visited the Dalkey Book Festival a few years back. This time was different as I am now a published author myself.

We both felt that a magical energy was multiplied coming from talented artists, writers and guests of the festival. There was a kind of creativity in the air and we were connected with that energy. Niall and I met amazing people, made new friends and created lots of happy memories. We were lucky to be able to book a few events as tickets were gone quickly weeks before the festival. We enjoyed an interesting talk that Jana Bakunina (her last book is ‘Stories by a Russian Londoner’) had with David McWilliams followed by a talk that Sinead Gleeson (her book is ‘Hagstone’) had with Rick O’Shea. I was personally very excited to meet my fellow authors in person and to get to know them. There were talks about politics, economics, history, nature and more. All talks had a special atmosphere as people were engaged and shared wonderful vibes.

I was thrilled to meet author and broadcaster Barbara Scully, TV star and author Kathy Lette along with Orla O’Doherty and Val Troy, producers of Funny Women. Barbara and Kathy’s talk was a breath of fresh air. It was so energetic and full of magical words to tune your brain. Their funny and witty sense of humour made everyone in the room feel better. These two wonderful ladies encouraged us women to be brave and embrace our lives, which are full of love and beauty. I already read Barbara’s book ‘Wise Up’ and found it helpful. There are serious issues wrapped up with humour, so it is easy to read and understand that life is basically what we make of it. Thank you, Barbara! And I look forward to reading Kathy’s last book “The Revenge Club”. Thank you Kathy for signing my copy of your book. I loved your message on the inside cover!

The Dalkey Book Festival is a fantastic festival seasoned with passion, new ideas, enthusiasm and humour. I feel creatively refreshed and am already looking forward to next year.
